Instalation Tactics

You can use the folowing methods:

  • setup
  • launcher
  • portable zip archive

    • For Linux, among your distribution, you can additionaly use :

  • dep package
  • rpm package

    • Every have this advantage and disavantage! Under windows, we advice to use the setup distribution. See below for more information

    Setup Method

    Advantage

  • Simpliest methode, recommanded for non-expert user
  • Automatic update is performed at each startup!
  • A java runtime environnement (JRE) is bundled.
  • Multi-user ready. All the user of the computer can use DiscoveryMat software.
  • Data base use by DiscoveryMat is package in this setup and install with the application.

    • Disadvantage

  • Required to be administrator of the computer where you want install DiscoveryMat.

    • Launcher Method

    Advantage

  • Automatic update is performed at each startup!
  • A java runtime environnement (JRE) is bundled.
  • No need to be an administrator of the computer!
  • Data base use by DiscoveryMat is package in this setup and install with the application.
  • Transportable on a USB key.
  • This methode is not dangerous, because operating system registry (Windows) is not modified by the setup, excepted the entry in the software list for uninstall management.

    • Disadvantage

  • Mono-user only. Other user of the computer cannot use directly DiscoveryMat software. You need to perform aditional action.

    • Portable ZIP-Archive Method

    Advantage

  • No need to be an administrator!
  • Transportable on a USB key.
  • This methode is not dangerous, because operating system registry (Windows) is not modified by the setup, excepted the entry in the software list for uninstall management.

    • Disadvantage

  • Manual update required!
  • Need to instal yourself a java runtime environnement(JRE).
  • Need to downloadd and instal yourself the Data Base required by DiscoveryMat. Easy, see Data-Download
  • Mono-user only. Other user of the computer cannot use directly DiscoveryMat software. You need to perform aditional action.

    • Note:

    Recommanded only for expert in special case!

    On windows, a version with a java runtime environnement (JRE) bundeled is available.

    Package (Linux only) Method

    Advantage

  • Automatic update is performed when you update your distribution.
  • Multi-user ready. All the user of the computer can use DiscoveryMat software.

    • Disadvantage

  • Required to be administrator (sudo) of the computer where you want install DiscoveryMat.
  • Need to downloadd and instal yourself the Data Base required by DiscoveryMat. Easy, see Data-Download

    • Note:

  • A java runtime environnement (JRE) is set as a dependancy of the DiscoveryMat package, and will be installed automaticly.
